Massive artificial reefs, Mirror clouds. Zombie mice.
Beaches where once there were none.
Travelling the world when aeroplanes are gone.
How we deal with big, breathtaking ideas – and the crazy excitement of living in hope.
Scenes from the Climate Era, is a new play from Belvoir St Theatre and is a collection of over fifty scenes that encapsulates the exhilaration, frustration, and fascination of living in interesting times.
With each scene taking on new topics, settings, and characters, all grappling with the joys and demands of the warming world, Scenes from the Climate Era is a beginner’s guide to climate activism, a tough conversation, an evening spent with friends, and a trip down to the water.
Drawing from our colourful past, delicate present, and uncertain future, these frightening and comforting snapshots of life will make you laugh, cry, and rally to action, all while providing a reminder that life continues on.
Written by David Finnigan (44 Sex Acts in One Week, Kill Climate Deniers), an award-winning playwright who has worked with climate and Earth system scientists from institutions across the world, and brought to life on stage by director Carissa Licciardello (Opening Night, A Room of One’s Own), Scenes from the Climate Era is an energetic and determined piece that offers a reflection on the world we have shaped, and an exploration of what we want it to be.
