Venue Her Majesty's
Ballarat Lyric Theatre Inc. presents Hairspray the Broadway Musical
The big musical with big hair.
Baltimore, Maryland, 1962. Segregation still grips the nation. The new 'teen-agers' spend every afternoon glued to the television, dancing to the Corney Collins Show.
Tracy Turnblad, frumpy daughter of Wilbur, owner of a comedy store and Edna, overweight laundry woman, has great hair and great dreams. One day, she too will be one of the 'nicest kids in town' and dance on Corney's show.
Along the way she falls in love with the hearthrob of the show, Link, and inadvertently begins the end of the segregation of Baltimore television, officially getting the Corney Collins Show integrated.
